Torre, Member Directory
the work
In 2023, Meta Angels embarked on a project to create a Member Directory, aiming to foster deeper connections within the NFT community. The directory was designed to evolve from its current manual state into a comprehensive, token-gated platform, allowing members to connect more effectively and expand their networks within and beyond the Meta Angels community.
objectives
Enhance User Experience: Streamline the process for members to connect by developing a directory that was more transparent and accessible than the AirTable directory in use.
Expand Functionality: Transition from a Discord-based system to a standalone platform, with features like 1:1 networking sessions, communities, and member profiles.
Scale Beyond Meta Angels: Position the directory as a tool for other Web3 communities, enabling cross-community connections and collaborations.
Monetize the Platform: Introduce a revenue model by offering the directory as a subscription service to other communities.
process
Research and Planning: The project began with an analysis of the existing directory usage and identified pain points. A roadmap was created to transition the directory into a platform that could serve both Meta Angels and other Web3 communities.
Design and Development: The new directory was designed to be a token-gated platform, allowing members to easily search and connect. The design included a cohesive brand identity that could be recognized across the Web3 space, while also being adaptable for use in other communities.
Collaboration: Regular feedback was solicited from stakeholders, including community leaders and members, to ensure the platform met the needs of its users. The team also collaborated with development teams to ensure smooth integration and functionality.
Launch and Expansion: The directory was soft-launched within the Meta Angels community, with plans for a broader rollout. Marketing strategies included hyping the platform within the community and offering rewards systems to encourage engagement.
challenges
Scalability: Balancing the needs of the Meta Angels community with the broader Web3 space required careful consideration of the directory’s features and design. What would be a key differentiator of this platform to warrant building it, and help sell it's features to other similar communities.
Brand Identity: Ensuring the directory had its own distinct brand while maintaining a connection to Meta Angels was crucial for both internal acceptance and external appeal. The brand also needed to be flexible enough to resonate with those who were unfamiliar with Meta Angel's and only using the platform for their own community.
Technical Integration: Moving from a Discord-based system to a standalone platform required significant development work and posed challenges in maintaining data integrity.
results
Post-launch, the Meta Angels Member Directory significantly boosted member engagement, with users actively leveraging the platform for networking and collaboration. This increased activity helped position Meta Angels as a leader in community-building within the Web3 space, attracting interest from other communities eager to adopt similar tools.
While Meta Angels was acquired by HUG during the development of this product, we were not able to fully see through the revenue-based model and expansion to other communities.
The positive impact from the community at the time of it's creation was a sure sign we were on the right track.
