My 3-i project
methodology

innovate

Thinking not only creatively, but analytically and in accordance with compliance regulations has helped me craft solutions that not only speak volumes to the mission and goals of a project, but account for legalities.

Combining those different approaches into one methodology allows for an innovation within projects that would typically require multiple people to accomplish.

inspire

I encourage growth, collaboration and flexibility within the teams I am part of. I position myself as a resource and subject matter expert where possible and leverage those skillsets to create learning material to help train up internal and external teams on my area of expertise.

I also train externally outside of the teams I work within and love being part of a community that is forward-thinking and continues to lift up, encourage, and share other's successes.

include

I create experiences for the everyone, not just a select sample size of folks. I am a certified digital accessibility specialist from the IAAP and have been working on implementing accessible methodologies in all parts of project planning, strategy, design, and development.

The more the merrier, and advocacy for the less represented communities is an integral part of defining a project's success.

cover letter

I'm an Inclusive Design Director on a mission to create accessible digital spaces that invite all types of users in to explore and interact.

I have agency, consulting and in-house experience and provide brands with award-winning systems and digital products. My background is "print gone digital" and it's helped shaped a unique perspective to approaching website and digital product design. I bring over 15 years of experience with me, and have enjoyed that throughout my career every project has brought forth new challenges that I have built and learned from.

I taught myself to code when I thought it was cool to make custom Myspace layouts, and it’s been part of me and my design process ever since. Let's just say the web inspector is my best friend. My coding background has instilled a more functional perspective to my design approach, allowing me to bridge the development gap with aesthetics while providing experiences that work.

I currently work in a remote environment, and have been doing work remotely for the past 5 years, making Slack my second best friend. I’m a strong advocate for good communication, especially with remote teams, and believe that it is essential to successful projects.

Alongside my desire to build functional and aesthetically pleasing websites, I also practice digital inclusion, by making web accessibility a priority in my process. I am a certified web accessibility professional through the IAAP and enjoy advocating for accessible experiences across the web.

My Process

Digital inclusion

Web accessibility is the backbone of every design decision.

advocating for inclusion

For a while I have been learning and understanding how to adapt as a designer to make sure the experiences I design are welcoming to everyone. In order to do this, I found myself exploring the world of accessibility as it applies to digital experiences. This changed my entire perspective, and the approach I take to building every product.

I have been certified through the IAAP for both core competencies (CPACC) and web accessibility (WAS) to take that commitment to inclusion to the next step. It gave me a better understanding of not only what goes into the design of an accessible website, but how the way a component is built also impacts its effectiveness. Things originally I had never thought about, suddenly became part of my every day train of thought.

I also train small design and content teams on the importance of digital accessibility, and how to integrate it into their process. Sharing my knowledge with others is always something I've been passionate about. The journey I went through to better understanding accessibility is a journey that many are afraid to take the first step on, and my goal is to make that first step seem less dehabilitating and more empowering.

If you need to make your website accessible, but don't know where to start, I'd be happy to have that conversation with you. The first step is talking about it!

what they say about me

Lindsey is a highly capable, brilliant ideator, and fast-moving/-learning designer. While we both worked at Third & Grove, Lindsey was able to rapidly on-board and pickup our workflow, aesthetic, and production practice intuitively and quickly. What makes Lindsey even more of a powerful resource for any design agency is her intimate knowledge of HTML and CSS and how digital products are built, function, and are experienced by users. Lindsey's ability to intuit users' expectations (as well as back that intuition of with research), design appropriately for those expectations, communicate such experiences to clients, manage the production of projects in the wake of less-than-perfect project management, as well as work efficiently and closely with devOps makes her an indispensable resource to any digital agency.

Consistently, Lindsey has shown that she has the innate ability as a relationship builder. She is always willing to step out and establish new lines of communication to meet needs. She is super personable, and I have yet to meet anyone who has had a bad experience working with Lindsey. She constantly strives to over deliver. Lindsey has been integral to both the strategic planning and execution of the overall growth strategy of our initiative. She has a natural born curiosity that seems to drive her every move.

Lindsey is very collaborative, and has an ability to communicate her creative ways to present business problems, options, and recommendations for the products we are building, to help us reach consensus quickly on short deadlines. Her collaboration with the client, internal team, and key product owners was critical to meeting the deadline we were up against.

Lindsey is a creative force to be reckoned with. It was a pleasure to work with someone devoted to finding not the easiest, not the most obvious, but the right solution. Lindsey always comes to the table with something inspiring and unique.

I was blown away with Lindsey when she first approached us to work at Hook 42. We didn't have a position open although we had talked about it for awhile. It didn't take much persuasion to hire her because she showed how passionate and talented she was right away. That was one of the best hiring decisions we made. Her talent and enthusiasm for her craft is impressive. I still don't understand how she can whip up amazing designs so quickly. And, she did way more than design for us. She was our entire marketing department. And, she's an accessibility expert too! I'm bummed we never got to do our full rebranding of the website because the pages she did redesign and the employee onboarding kit she created were so fun and inspiring. I'd jump at the chance at working with Lindsey again. You'd be lucky to have her on your team.

Lindsey is a fantastic designer, quick learner, and always pleasant to work with. Her knowledge of the front-end technology behind websites gives her an invaluable edge as a designer over others who create static mockups without any understanding of how they will be built. I would work with Lindsey again in a heartbeat, and highly recommend her to anyone else with the chance to do the same.

Lindsey is a strong and talented designer who has delivered amazing work for Hook 42. On top of the design work she has done, she has exceeded my expectations by taking on additional responsibilities, such as building and executing marketing plans, evolving the Hook 42 brand and spearheading employee engagement efforts. The professionalism and engagement she consistently brought to the table made her shine even brighter. I would want to be part of a team with Lindsey again.
